The KEC Riding Academy offers instruction in both English and Western riding, specifically in the Saddleseat, Huntseat, and Western disciplines. Our students can start as early as age 5.
Each student may choose as many disciplines as they would like to study and lessons are offered in either private and/or group format (2 or 3 students).
Students are evaluated on arrival and are matched with KEC horses who are selected and trained to match a wide range of riding levels and disciplines. KEC staff teaches with an emphasis on safety; as well as good sportsmanship, horsemanship, and of course fun! We know students learn at a different rate, and while we encourage progression, we also ensure the student is well equipped before moving on. (This may be challenging to understand for some of our more ambitious riders, but it is upheld in the best interest of safety for both horse and rider). Students are not required to show; however, there are competition opportunities once the student has achieved the necessary skills and proficiency.
Experience is not required before beginning, as we will teach you all you need to know to get started! Helmets and boots are required however; and although KEC can offer helmets and boots if needed, correct boot sizes may or may not be available, so check with KEC staff in advance.

Academy Shows
| |
KEC offers beginner through advanced saddleseat riding lessons for children and adults. Participants may choose to learn to ride for the sheer pleasure of riding a horse or they may choose to prepare for competition. The Academy program is a place to try out showing, to get your feet wet, and to learn the elementary showing skills. When you show in Academy, you do not need a full riding suit, just Kentucky jodhpurs, riding boots, and a dress shirt, tie and vest. When you show in Academy, you show our lesson horses that you have been riding and practicing on. We bring the horses to the show, groom and prepare the horse, and coach you through your classes. You will generally show in 2 classes at a show, giving you a chance to improve your performance the second time.

Riding Clothes
| |
Riders should wear long pants and a hard-soled shoe with a one-half inch heel. Once you decide to continue riding, you may decide to purchase riding pants and riding boots. Helmets are required for riders under 18 years old, and are strongly recommended for adults. We can supply helmets, but you may want your own.
Items you might want to have include Riding pants such as breeches (hunt seat) or Kentucky jodhpurs (saddle seat), English style riding boots such as Paddock boots or Jodhpur boots, Gloves, and a Helmet.
