Terms & Conditions- Keith Equestrian Center

Riders/Parents Expectations:
Please arrive for your lessons at least 15 minutes early to allow time to get yourself and your horse prepared for the lesson and allow time after the lesson to take care of your horse if needed. Riders will receive a riding lesson per week that aligns with the tuition you have selected, this lesson will be a private 30-minute session in the beginning until the instructor recommends the rider is ready to join the appropriate group. All riders eventually will move to a semi-private group once ready.

  • If you are late to your lesson, please be advised you will have only the time left in your time slot to ride. This does not grant a make-up lesson.

  • Please pick up riders on time. Please inform us if you know you will be late picking up your Rider.

  • Parents are expected to remain on site for children 13 & under.

  • If a Rider is being picked up by someone other than the parents, the Instructor must be notified.

  • Riders must be coachable, positive, and have a good attitude!

  • Rider agrees to show up on time (15 minutes prior to scheduled ride time)

  • No Guarantee -The company does not warrant or guarantee any specific level of performance or results. The results of your riding progress are largely based on the efforts of the student.

  • Please take into consideration that our Riders may include young children, we also have cats and the occasional dogs on the property. PLEASE DRIVE CAREFULLY AND SLOWLY.

  • Friends & Family Members attending for the lessons must stay in the designated watching area for safety reasons.

  • We ask that there is no coaching or assisting from a parent during the lesson time.

  • We do not allow any form of Bullying at KEC. Violators of this policy will be asked to leave.

  • Parents and Riders are asked to be respectful of our instructors, horses, others, barn, and equipment.

  • We expect our riders to take responsibility and pride in themselves and how they walk out and into the arena for each lesson. This includes the rider being responsible for their belongings and their horse - NOT the parent.

Expected Riding attire: any boot with an one-inch heel, long pants, and one of our helmets are acceptable for the first month of lessons. After these initial lessons, riders must purchase the correct riding attire listed below:

Zip-front paddock boots or Jodphur Boots (not cowboy boots)

Properly fitted ASTM/SEI-approved helmet

We encourage bootcut riding jods (Not Hunter style jods)

Underpasses (elastic tie-down that holds your pants down while riding)

We recommend shirts to be tucked in or Semi form-fitting tops.

Riding gloves are recommended for all seasons.

Hair pulled back in a neat ponytail or braid.

KEC Shirt may be purchased through our online store.

Purchase of your own saddle is a great option and KEC can help you with that.

Iowa Bad Weather Policy- Cancelation for Weather

There are times when Iowa has terrible weather that is not conducive to riding or when it is not safe to be on the road. In order to be able to provide affordable horseback riding lessons, and to continue caring for our lesson horses, we ask that you be willing to work with us on rescheduling during the hot and cold days of Iowa. We offer generous weather policies and makeup policies for weather. If you do not feal it is safe to drive to the barn, we will provide several alternative lesson times. The 24 hour cancellation policy is not in affect when Iowa weather changes quickly, school closes, or the roads are not safe. Safety is our priority!

Weather Cancelation Policy- KEC Cancels lessons if the Ottumwa schools are closed. If the heat index is above 110 or below 15. We also cancel if we are having a weather event such as a thunderstorm or a snowstorm. We will endeavor to reach each client individually, but will always post on our private facebook page with any cancelations or lesson changes.

Social Media Acknowledgement:

Social media can be a fun and useful tool to communicate with barn mates, friends, coaches, instructors, and more. Social media can also be a dangerous tool if you are not careful. Every picture, link, quote, tweet, status, Snapchat, or post that you or your friends put online is forever a part of your digital footprint. You never know when it might come back to hurt or help your reputation during a showing, team tryouts, college acceptance, getting a job, receiving awards, or any other important area in your life. A negative social media image also reflects negatively on your sport and Keith Equestrian Center.

Social Media Acknowledgement Rules Must Be Signed.

Our reputation always precedes us. Please remember that people will share things with others. The resulting perceptions and exaggerations can lead to misinterpretation. Protect yourself and your barn by thinking before you post anything on social media.

Violations of our rules will result in a one-time warning. After that, a parent meeting will follow.

Compensation and Payment Terms:

KEC Riding Academy expects payment prior to your lesson. If you are a new student you will need to pay for your introductory lesson prior to your ride; this is a $50 fee. Once you decide to join KEC you will then choose a Monthly Tuition of your choice and be set up.  We do offer a discount on all Cash payments for all tuition memberships if requested. To receive this discount you must pay prior to the 28th of the month to be billed. Current lesson rates will be available on the KEC website, lessons fees are subject to change.
