Lesson Cancelation Policy- Keith Equestrian Center
Lesson Cancelation & Make Up Policy:
At Keith Equestrian Center Riding Academy, careful planning is dedicated to coordinating lessons with our instructors and reserving horses for each rider. It is essential for riders to attend scheduled lessons and arrive on time to uphold the smooth operation of our schedule. Should KEC need to cancel a lesson, we are committed to arranging a make-up session at a time that suits the rider's convenience.

Your lesson time reserves the exclusive use of a school horse, cancellations for any reason must be made at least 24 hrs prior to your lesson time.

Failure to give 24-hour notice when making a cancellation or you do not show up will result in a “No Show” and you will lose that lesson from your monthly Tuition.

Students are allowed One make-up lesson per month - If you cancel your lesson within the time frame allowed.

Cancellations may be made by email, text, or messenger.

Make-up lessons will be arranged with the instructor.

Occasionally there will be other make-up slots added throughout the month, these can be found through our private facebook page and/or in the lounge on our whiteboard.

KEC reserves the right to cancel your lesson time permanently and reschedule a new student to this time If you cancel this time slot more than 3 times and/or on a regular basis.
Iowa Bad Weather Policy- Cancelation for Weather

There are times when Iowa has terrible weather that is not conducive to riding or when it is not safe to be on the road. In order to be able to provide affordable horseback riding lessons, and to continue caring for our lesson horses, we ask that you be willing to work with us on rescheduling during the hot and cold days of Iowa. We offer generous weather policies and makeup policies for weather. If you do not feal it is safe to drive to the barn, we will provide several alternative lesson times. The 24 hour cancellation policy is not in affect when Iowa weather changes quickly, school closes, or the roads are not safe. Safety is our priority!

Weather Cancelation Policy- KEC Cancels lessons if the Ottumwa schools are closed. If the heat index is above 110 or below 15. We also cancel if we are having a weather event such as a thunderstorm or a snowstorm. We will endeavor to reach each client individually, but will always post on our private facebook page with any cancelations or lesson changes.
KEC Closed For Holidays and Horse Shows:
KEC Will offer makeups or work to have an alternate instructor when Horse Show Dates Interfere with Lesson Dates. Usually only Saturday Lessons are affected, and The Iowa State Fair Society Show in August. Advanced notice will be given.

2026 Holidays With No Lessons, KEC Will offer Makeups: Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, New Year’s Eve.
Keith Equestrian Center will be closed for the Week of Christmas and will not have makeups for that week. This is in order for staff and horses to take a much deserved rest and celebrate the Christmas holidays!

Horse Show Cancelations:
If you need to cancel your participation in a Barn Show, Academy Show, or Clinic, please inform us as soon as possible. It is important to note that horses and staff are scheduled at least two weeks prior to the event. Therefore, timely notification is essential. Remember that no refunds will be offered. This policy is in place because all associated fees, training, and care for the horse have already been covered up front. Preparing horses for competitions and events involves extensive advance planning and arrangements, making it necessary to enforce these conditions.
Monthly Tuition Cancelation:

Canceling Tuition: You are responsible for canceling your monthly subscription on our website. There are NO REFUNDS for unused lessons. You can cancel at any time, but unused lessons are not eligible for Makeups or Refunds. Unused lessons are untransferable.
Canceling your lesson tuition is permanent and will release your rider's spot/time. Please be aware you will lose this spot/time for future scheduling.
Tuition Is Calculated for Months that have 4 Weeks. Months that have 5 weeks are considered to be Makeup lessons for riders who have missed and bonus lessons for riders that have made their weekly lessons.
The Monthly Tuition is Calculated to have One week off per year, over the Christmas Holiday.
